Sewing Bee

MISSION PROJECT: SEWING BEE

Sewing Bees are held on the first Saturday each month, from 8:30am to Noon at the Shire's residence. Please RSVP to tanyashire@aol.com to participate in this mission project.

To God be the glory!  LuoPads for women launched March 19, 2019.  The documentary “Period. End of Sentence”, which recently won an Oscar, is about the taboo of menstruation and lack of hygiene products in a small village in India. This village is like thousands in the world where women are ostracized and often prevented from leaving home or attending school during that time of the month. In many cases, women only have grass, leaves, or wood chips to use. A period should be the end of a sentence, and not the end of a girl’s education.

The Sewing Bee Mission group is now sewing hundreds of washable and reusable feminine pads for women in need. These pads are combined with panties, a washcloth, safety pins, and waterproof bag to make a kit for a woman to use during menstruation at a cost of $9.  You can help support this project with “Luo Pads” on the memo line of your gift to WUMC.  Our 2019 goal is 200 kits.

We will continue to make dresses, shorts, and book bags. Our 2019 goals are 1000, 1000, and 1500, respectively. We are on target to make those goals. Since we started in 2014, we have distributed our products to 14 countries and 4 destinations in the United States. About 20 attend each sewing bee and 4 work exclusively from home.

Thanks to the dozens of people who volunteer their time and supplies to make this happen!
